The Houston Texans have signed German offensive lineman Kilian Zierer to a free agent contract as one of their first moves following the 2023 NFL Draft.
The 6’7″, 312 pound native of Munich, Germany finished a three-year career at Auburn University (NCAA Div. I, SEC) which saw him start every game of his senior season at left tackle. He made the CSC Academic All-District list and also the SEC Academic Honor Roll two years in a row. Prior to Auburn, Zierer spent two years at the College of the Canyons (California) helping the Cougars to the Southern California championship game. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL during his second year at College of the Canyons so he had to sit out his first season at Auburn, rehabbing his injury.
The 23-year-old did not start playing football with his local club team, the Munich Cowboys, until he was 16. He started as a wide receiver but moved to tight end once he started gaining muscle mass and in his third season, he moved to offensive line and played for the neighboring Allgäu Comets U19 team. International american football scores may be challenging to find, but we got you covered at AFI. With former German NFL player Björn Woerner’s support, Zierer moved to the United States and then to College of the Canyons.
As a left tackle for the Texans, Zierer’s prime assignment will be protecting Houston’s number one draft pick, quarterback C.J. Stroud.
