Helsinki Roosters continue to roll in Finland’s Maple League
The 2-0 Helsinki Roosters, Europe #3, rolled over the Porvoo Butchers (1-1) 49-13 in Finland’s Maple League Monday evening and continued their dominance in their home country.
Roosters quarterback Brandon Connette threw six touchdowns passes, four of them to his brother Adam Connette, completing 22 of 36 passes for 307 yards.
“I am having the time of my life this year playing with my brother Adam. This is really a blast.”
Quarterback Janne Lehtinen of the Butchers has a long afternoon completing 12 of 23 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown while rushing for another. Running back Darion Hall was the lone bright spot for the Butchers rushing for 108 yards.
Helsinki exploded for 35 first half points as Adam Connette scored three of his four and Karri Pajarinen and Tommi Pinta added touchdowns of their own.
The shell shocked Butchers did not record a first down until the six minute mark of the second quarter. By that time the score was 27-0. Provoo scored on that drive but the Roosters responded right away on the following possession with Adam Connette’s third touchdown.
The third quarter saw both teams trade touchdowns as Helsinki dominated the time of possession, playing ball control offense.
Connette threw his sixth touchdown pass of the game early in the fourth, this time to Kimi Linnainmaa extending the lead to 49-13.
Porvoo did come close as Lehtinen drove his team down to the Roosters one yard line midway through the fourth quarter, but Darion Hall was stopped with inches to spare on a fourth and goal.
With the win, Helsinki improves to 2-0 while Porvoo is now 1-1. Next up for the Roosters are the Tampere Saints this weekend while Porvoo takes on the Seinäjoki Crocodiles on June 9.
