Gridiron Developmental Football League postpones league start to June
The Gridiron Development Football League has pushed its 2020 kickoff back by at least one month.
The season was scheduled to kick off May 2 which is less than two weeks away as most states are set to re-open on May 1. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the league has now pushed the start date to June at the earliest to allow for more time to evaluate the situation.
GDFL President Charles Thompson:
“As each week comes all games for that week will be evaluated if not able to play. We will push games to back of the schedule we could do this up till week 5. A shortened season is a possible response to the coronavirus outbreak.”
League Commissioner Bo Townsend:
“We almost certainly want to avoid shortening the season, but it may be the only option to finish the season without having games bleed into late December. The health and safety of our players, fans, and the communities in which we play continue to be our top priority. We will continue to consult with health experts and local, state and federal officials as we assess future scheduling options.”
