Andreas Knappe, the 6’8″, 325 lb offensive lineman from Denmark, is battling for a roster spot with the Denver Broncos and has shown some promise.
This is the fourth NFL stop for Knappe who originally signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent after he went undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was released after the preseason but was then picked up by the Washington Redskins. After a short stay there, he signed with the Colts on December 3.
Andreas Knappe played college-football for the University of Connecticut Huskies. According to the Danish American football website, GulKlud.dk, his biggest strength is blocking in the run game where his impressive physique drives the opponents backwards. Conversely, they say that his huge size gives him some challenges when he is going to block in the throwing game.
Being from Denmark, Andreas Knappe didn’t play football until he was 18 years old. He started playing for a team (Triangle Razorbacks) in the Danish American Football Federation (DAFF), where they won the “Mermaid Bowl.”
In the Broncos first preseason game, a loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Knappe saw plenty of playing time at right tackles, mainly protecting quarterback Chad Kelly.
His playing time against the Chicago Bears in the second preseason game was reduced and he saw only 10 snaps, all in the fourth quarter.
His play against the Vikings impressed the website, Pro Football Focus who gave him a rating of 71.6, fourth best among Denver’s offensive linemen.
