GFL: Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns sign British NCAA D2 TE Stephen Mccluskey
The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns the reigning champions of the German Football League have brought in another European weapon in British tight end Stephen Mccluskey. Mccluskey brings with him NCAA experience as he aims to help the Unicorns reload for another title run in 2023.
The 6’1″, 225 pound native of Motherwell, UK, was a reserve tight end for the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers playing five seasons with the NCAA DII program. In his final season in 2022, he caught eight passes for 57 yards while making one tackle on special teams.
Prior to playing Oklahoma, Mccluskey was a standout at the Bristol Academy of Sports in Bristol, England. There he played quarterback and wide receiver for the Lions under Coach Ben Hero. He led his team to several undefeated seasons and was named Coaches Player of the Year twice.
Mccluskey joins a new look Unicorns featuring former head coach Ziggy Gehrke’s son, Ian at quarterback along with the return of Tyler Rutenbeck and new a weapon on the outside in NAIA standout Caleb Schweigert.
