The Saarland Hurricanes have found their quarterback for the 2023 season in Division III National Championship winner and Manning Camp participant Kyle King.
King last suited up in 2022 for Division III powerhouse Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders in Texas. In three years and 31 games with the Crusaders, King threw for 6971 yards and 82 touchdowns, winning a National Championship in 2021 after initially joining the team back in 2018 as a punter.
Following his National Championship win in December 2021 King received a call from Archie Manning letting him know that he would be attending the Manning Camp along with big Division I names such as Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young (Alabama), National Champion Stetson Bennett (Georgia), Cameron Rising (Utah), CJ Stroud (Ohio State) and Clayton Tune (Houston).
The 6 ‘3, 220-pounder’s stellar career with the Crusaders earnt him Second Team All-ASC in 2020 and Third-Team All-ASC in 2021. In addition to this King was an Academic All-ASC selection for both years at Mary Hardin-Baylor.
King had his best year to date in 2022 making it to the National semi-finals before losing to North Central, but with most college awards still pending it is uncertain what he will be awarded for his most recent year.
Joining King this year in Saarland will be former rival and the man he beat in the 2021 National Championship game, North Central College receiver Andrew Kamienski (hyperlink to King piece).
