GFL: Allgäu Comets sign former NFL receiver Anthony Dablé-Wolf

The Allgäu Comets of the German Football League have made a splash signing by bringing in former NFL receiver Anthony Dablé-Wolf. Comets head coach Elias Gniffke is thrilled to have the trailblazing European pro in Kempten:

Standing at 6’5 220 pounds Anthony Dablé-Wolf is an intimidating receiver with plenty of production and experience to back up his physical prowess. The 33-year old native of Grenoble, France most recently suited up for the Leipzig Kings of the European League of Football catching 43 passes for 532 yards and four scores.

The Frenchmen made history in 2016 when he signed with the New York Giants as the first European to join an NFL team without previous NFL or college experience. He signed with the Giants after a tryout that was arranged by ex-Giant Osi Umenyiora, who was working for the NFL in London as an ambassador.

After lasting with the Giants through preseason, he was released and did not get signed to the practice squad. Following a tryout with the New England Patriots, Dablé-Wolf signed a futures contract with the Atlanta Falcons in early 2017 and also lasted through training camp and the preseason. The international pass-catcher hauled in seven catches for 88 yards in the pre-season. He was released despite a much better performance than the year previous with the Giants.

Dablé-Wolf first discovered football through playing video games as a teenager. Finally, at the age of 19, the future pro joined his local team the Grenoble Centaurs, and eventually worked his way up to the French National team. In 2012 the Frenchmen flew to Canada to join the Laval University’s football team only to be declared ineligible.

In 2013 Dablé-Wolf returned to Europe from Canada and joined the Lubeck Cougars in Germany. The following season he moved to Germany’s capital playing for the Berlin Rebels. Dablé-Wolf put up 26 catches for 654 yards and eight touchdowns while playing for the Rebels.

Showing flashes of the player he would become Dablé-Wolf was recruited to the New Yorker Lions, one of Europe’s top teams. The move paid off as Dablé-Wolf amassed 2,437 yards and 32 touchdowns over two seasons. The star receiver and the Lions won back-to-back German Bowls and one Eurobowl championship. Following the 2015 season, former New York Giant Osi Umenyiora discovered the French talent on Youtube.

Upon returning to Europe after his time with the Atlanta Falcons, Dablé-Wolf played two games in a return to the New Yorker Lions before tearing his Achilles. The next season in a full-fledged comeback to the German Football League the veteran caught 70 passes for 820 yards and a team-leading 14 touchdowns, leading the Hildesheim Invaders to their first-ever playoff appearance.

This year, the well-traveled receiver will play and coach for the Comets filling in as a player and the team’s wide receiver coach. The Comets hope the former NFL pro can help young talents such as Marcel Schade and Benny Perauer develop their skills.
