According to Kevin Obermaier of Germany’s ran.de, young German quarterback Salieu Ceesay has accepted a scholarship offer from the Azusa Pacific University Cougars (NCAA Division II).
The 6’4″, 205 lb, 19-year-old Lübeck native is a product of the Lübeck Cougars U19 program but spent the past two years playing quarterback at Aquinas High School in San Bernadino, California.
In 24 games as a starter, he won 21. In 2017 he completed 112 out of 193 passes for over 2,100 yards while throwing 26 touchdown passes with only one interception. NCAA Div. I schools including Nevada and Sacramento State had shown interest in Ceesay but he chose to stay close to “home”. Azusa Pacific is located only a 40 minute drive from San Bernadino, where Ceesay’s high school “parents” live.
The Cougars play their games in the 10,000-seat Citrus Stadium. In 2017, the team finished the season with seven wins and four defeats in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference
