Perez Mattison is the new team captain of Lübeck Cougars. On Saturday, the 41-year-old veteran was selected in the team’s training camp. The quarterback succeeds Philip Stursberg, who moved from the field to the sideline as member of the coaching staff.
Mattison has an American football pedigree that goes back to NCAA’s East Carolina University, but he has spent most of his professional career in France’s top league. He’s led the Elancourt Templiers and the Flash de la Courneuve from the quarterback position.
“It is a great honor for me to lead the team in 2015,” said Mattison after his election. The playmaker of the French national team is the first import player in the Cougars.
Lubeck’s other captains are Mathieu Vogt (OL), Dennis Hahn (DL), Lucas Stadler (LB) and Berend pit (WR).
The Cougars begin their 2015 GFL2 season on April 25 with a home game against Potsdam Royals.
