Germany’s Kiel Baltic Hurricanes sign former Pittsburgh Steeler JD Woods
The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes of the German Football League, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, have signed former Pittsburgh Steeler and West Virginia Mountaineer wide receiver JD Woods for the 2018 season.
The 6’1″, 195 lb 28 year old native of Naples, Florida was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013 where he played through the preseason. At West Virginia, Woods was a standout receiver catching passes from Geno Smith (current New York Giants QB) and in his senior season he recorded 61 catches for 637 yards and four touchdowns, including some of the more spectacular kind.
Hurricanes head coach Dan Disch:
“J.D. is an intelligent, young man and a “student of the game”. I think he has all the tools he needs to succeed with the Canes, and he is hungry.”
Woods then played for the Try-Cities Fever and Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League. In the spring of 2017, he played in the The Spring League, an elite developmental league for the NFL and other professional leagues.
