Germany: Straubing Spiders sign shutdown CB Marcus Lawrence

The Straubing Spiders have upgraded their secondary with the signing of defensive back Marcus Lawrence for the 2025 German Football League season.

The 6-2, 200 pound, 26 year old from Aurora, Colorado has spent the last two seasons (2023, 2024) with the Vienna Vikings in the Austrian Football League. In 18 games with the Vikings he recorded 28 tackles, 17 pass breakups and an interception. Vienna had the top rated defensive secondary in the AFL in 2023 and was third in fewest passing yards allowed in 2024.

The team reached the AFL final both seasons.

Lawrence spent four seasons (2017-2021) at Colorado State University-Pueblo (NCAA Div. II) where in 48 games he amassed 105 tackles and nine interceptions playing mostly boundary corner although he played nickel and safety.

The Spiders finished the 2024 GFL season with a 7-5 record and reached the quarterfinals where they were eliminated by the Dresden Monarchs.
