Germany: Straubing Spiders sign All Confeence RB Sidney Gibbs

The Straubing Spiders have added running back Sidney Gibbs to their roster for the 2025 German Football League season.

The 5-9, 196 pound native of Black Mountain, North Carolina, finished his four year career at Shaw University (NCAA, Div. II) as the school’s All-Time leading rusher with 605 carries for 3,326 yards. He also recorded 543 yards receiving and had a combined 30 touchdowns.

He was a three time 2nd Team All CIAA (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) selection and was named to the 1st team All-CIAA squad in 2021.

Straubing finished the 2024 season with a 7-5 record good for third in the GFL South. They lost to the Dresden Monarchs who finished second in the GFL North. The Spiders had the 10th best rushing attack among the 15 GFL teams.

“Sidney is coming to us from North Carolina. When you see him, explosiveness just jumps out. He comes from a coaching family. A four-year starter with excellent college production. He’s an Extremely well put together young man. His one cut running style is going to fit into our offense perfectly. We’re happy to have a such a high character guy in Straubing.”
