Germany: Playoff berths at stake
With the German Football League heading into the final four to five games of the 12 game 2024 season playoff berths are still up for grabs.
The Braunschweig New Yorker Lions (4-3) will visit Berlin to play the Berlin Rebels (2-4) in a tale of two teams heading in opposite directions. The Lions have won four straight going into this game and sit fourth in the GFL North standings while Berlin has lost its last four games. This is the first meeting between the two this year. The Allgäu Comets (2-4) are coming off of an humiliating 96-14 loss to the Potsdam Royals and will be trying to rebound against a Saarland Hurricanes (1-6) squad that has dropped four in a row. The Paderborn Dolphins (2-4) and Straubing Spiders (3-4) are set to clash in Straubing in the only interconference matchup of the weekend. Paderborn is on a three-game losing streak while the Spiders have lost their last two. The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (8-1) head to Munich to take on the Munich Cowboys (3-4) in the second meeting between the two this year. The Unicorns won the opening encounter 42-35.
The most anticipated game of the weekend takes place Sunday, August 4 when the Dresden Monarchs (5-1) host the Hildesheim Invaders (7-1) in a battle for second place in the GFL North.
