Germany: GFL TV Top 9 Plays of the Week from the German Football League
With most of the teams in the German Football League back in action this past weekend after a four week break, let’s take a look at the Top 9 GFL TV Plays of the Week from the first full weekend of play.
Both offenses and defenses are highlighted in this round with a pair of interceptions among the nine plays featured. Two of the games had a pair of highlights each this week.
Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns QB Marco Ehrenfried finds himself in trouble against the Frankfurt Universe and scrambles throwing a deep 39 pass to 6’9″ receiver Aurieus Adegbesan who catches it in traffic in a tight ball game. The Unicorns went on to win the game, 12-9
Running back Chris McClendon made his debut as a member of the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions, showing why he led the German Football League in rushing in 2017. After recovering from an injury which had sidelined him for the first half of the 2018 season, McClendon ripped off a 70 yard touchdown run showing his power and speed in helping the Lions beat the Potsdam Royals 41-13.
Cologne Crocodiles punter Domonic Gröne caught the Berlin Rebels punt cover team napping when he realized he had room and bolted for a huge gain and a first down. The Rebels still won the game though, beating Cologne 37-29.
Marburg Mercenaries new QB Zac Cunha stepped back and seeing Silas Nacita splitting the defense hit him with a perfect pass down the middle of the field and Nacita made no mistake racing the rest of the way for a 44 yard touchdown against the Allgäu Comets. Nevertheless, the Comets won the game 28-25,
Kiel Baltic Hurricanes QB Lennoris Footman faked the handoff, tucked in the ball and rumbled for a 15 yard touchdown against the Hildesheim Invaders. The Invaders won the game however, 15-14.
The Dusseldorf Panther U19 team is even featured with a spectacular 50 yard touchdown reception.
QB Trenton Miller of the Munich Cowboys surveyed the field and saw receiver Kai Silbermann getting loose on a slant against the Stuttgart Scorpions hitting him for a 25 yard gain in traffic. Munich went on to win the game 21-14.
The Frankfurt Universe and Schwabisch Hall Unicorns also produced the #8 play of the week as Universe DB John Tidwell picked off an Ehrenfried pass on his own two yard line and dodging and weaving returned it all the way back to the Unicorns 23 yard line.
Danny Wynne of the Allgäu Comets literally stepped in front of the receiver on the goal line and stole a pass from Marburg QB Zac Cunha returning it out to safety on his own 20 yard line.
