The Braunschweig New Yorker Lions of the German Football League have found their new quarterback in former New Mexico (NCAA DI) and ELF player Lamar Jordan III.
The dual-threat passer returns to the quarterback position in Germany after spending time as a wide receiver in Hamburg in 2022. Look for Lions head coach Troy Tomlin to mold an exciting offense around the dynamic playmaker, as they look to build on a semi-final run in 2023.
The 5’11”, 190-pound receiver comes to Braunschweig after a year away from football in 2023. In 2022 Jordan played wide receiver for the Hamburg Sea Devils of the European League of Football catching 40 passes for 533 yards and four touchdowns helping the Sea Devils make it all the way to the championship game.
Prior to beginning his pro career, Jordan III played in 46 games with the New Mexico Lobos (NCAA D1) almost exclusively at quarterback. The Frisco, Texas native threw for 3,186 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions in Albuquerque. On the ground the former high school option quarterback stood out, rushing for 2,501 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Following his NCAA career, Jordan II transitioned from quarterback to receiver. His 4.46 forty-yard dash and versatility were enough for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons to sign him as an undrafted free agent. Jordan spent the 2018 pre-season with the Falcons before being released in September. Jordan on his time in Atlanta:
“The transition from quarterback to wide receiver was harder than I had thought. However, God blessed me [with] a great organization in the Atlanta Falcons. I learned from guys like Russel Gage Jr., Calvin Ridley, and Julio Jones on how to become an explosive wide receiver”.
Following his NFL stint, the former Lobo participated in the XFL showcase and CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos rookie minicamp, before signing to play indoor football with the Massachusetts Pirates in 2020. Earlier this year, the 27-year-old played for the Spokane Shock in the indoor football league, where he put up 287 total yards and a touchdown in only four games serving as the team’s kick returner and receiver.

The move to the Lions means a return to the quarterback position for Jordan, leaning on his strength as he was truly a standout playmaker from behind center during his college days.
Football isn’t Jordan’s first experience with Germany as his father, a former United States Air Force member, was stationed in the country during his childhood. Expect the versatile dual-threat quarterback to lead the Lions offense as they bring back former Mount Union receiver Luc Meacham as well as add German receiver Moritz Riedinger.
The Lions seem to be reloading for another run at the German Bowl as defensive coordinator Dave Likins returns from the ELF bringing with him several intriguing veterans along with European and American imports.
