Germany: Berlin Rebels hand Kiel Baltic Hurricanes 2nd loss of season
The Berlin Rebels (2-0) have opened their German Football League season in impressive fashion with two straight wins after defeating the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes 17-6 in front of a crowd of 2,156 at Kilia Stadium in Kiel.
This was the first time since entering the GFL in 2012 that the Rebels have beaten Kiel in Kiel.
Reciever/running back Sean Richard and quarterback Terrell Robinson each scored touchdowns for Berlin while Philipp Friis Andersen kicked a field goal and both extra points for the Rebels.
Newly signed running back Chris Francis scored the lone touchdown for Kiel.
The Rebels came out strong in the first quarter taking a 10-0 lead on Richard’s touchdown and Andersen’s 30 yard field goal. Hurricanes quarterback Clayton Turner moved his team into position on a long pass to Diego Sanchez midway through the second quarter and then Francis scored from 13 yards out to narrow the lead to 10-6.
Kiel reached the red zone again in the second quarter but came up empty handed and the Rebel took a 10-6 lead into the break.
The Hurricanes came out strong in the third quarter but miss a field goal and then on their next possession, turned the ball over in their own zone. Robinson made them pay scoring quickly to extend the lead to 17-6.
Berlin’s defense did the rest, keeping the Hurricanes at bay the entire fourth quarter.
This was a key road win for Berlin and places them atop the standings in the German Football League North after two games.
