The Berlin Rebels of the German Football League have announced the signing of British defensive tackle Joshua Olaiya.
The 6’1″, 287 pound, 23-year-old from Birmingham, England spent the 2021 season with the Allgäu Comets in the GFL South. With Olaiya clogging the middle, the Cometshad the top rushing defense in 2021, allowing a mere 53.4 yards on the ground per game and an even more incredible 1.9 yards a carry.
Olaiya did not start playing football until he was 15 but once he had discovered it with the Birmingham Lions, he developed quickly and after two years received a scholarship from the University of Stirling. In his two seasons with the Clansmen, he helped the team reach the UK playoffs in both 2019 and 2020.
The young British talent explains the reason for his signing:
“I chose the Rebels because I just want to play football and win a championship. I have played in the GFL South which was predominantly a run league and I want to become a better pass rusher in a passing league to better my game and play in a tougher part of the GFL. “
