Germany: Allgäu Comets sign former Texas Tech, Rutgers QB McLane Carter
The Allgäu Comets of the German Football League have signed former Texas Tech (NCAA Div. I FBS, Big 12) and Rutgers (Div. I FBS, Big Ten) quarterback McLane Carter for the 2021 season.
The 6’3″, 225 pound, 24 year old Carter from Gilmer, Texas had initially retired from football early in the 2019 season with Rutgers as a graduate senior, citing a concussion he suffered during the year. In his only start, he showed off his abilities leading the Scarlet Knights to their only win of the season, throwing for 340 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-21 victory over UMass. He left Rutgers‘ second game, a 30-0 loss to Iowa, with a concussion
At Texas Tech, his junior season was cut short due to injuries. He had been named the starting quarterback after preseason practices but was injured for most of the season shortly after. He closed the year 28-of-51 passing for 318 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.
He attended Tyler Junior College in 2016 and threw for 3,226 yards and 30 touchdowns in just nine games. Playing for Gilmer High School in Gilmer, Texas, Carter completed 220-of-297 passes (74 percent) for 3,969 yards with 47 touchdowns and only two interceptions despite sitting sizable portions of the second half in blowouts as a senior. He led the Buckeyes to a 16-0 record in 2014, culminating in the Class 4A Division II State Championship.
