The German Football League’s Allgäu Comets have signed Ashley Bailey as their quarterback for the 2021 season.
The 6’1″, 185 pound, 23 year old Birmingham, England native has just finished a pandemic shortened season in Poland playing for the Silesia Rebels where he completed 72 of 107 passes for 952 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for another 344 and five scores. He spent the 2019 season with the Prague Lions who went on to win the Czech league title. He also played with the Barberà Rookies in the Catalan regional league. In 2018, playing for the Hradec Kralove Dragons in the Czech 2nd division he threw for 1,007 yards in eight games. He quarterbacked Portugal’s Allgarve Sharks to a 5-5 record in 2017 after starting the year playing wide receiver for the Pribram Bobcats in the Czech top division.
In other words, Bailey has been busy over the past four years, but he had a plan:
“Everything I’ve done the last four years has been to put me in the position I’m in now, and I appreciate the opportunity offered to me by the Comets. Whilst COVID put a wrench in the plans of all of us this year, football included, I was able to turn that into an opportunity to play in one of the few leagues actually playing this year. With the added exposure of all the games being live streamed each week, I had been receiving interest and offers from a great number of teams, but I really felt a sense that Comets would be the best place, environment and situation for me personally.
“Despite the record in the win/loss, I feel I was able to showcase what I can do and what I’m about. I really learnt a lot during my time in Poland, both on and off the field, and being one of the British import players in the league I got to see some familiar faces almost every week.”
