German Football League: Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns add former Eastern Washington DB Mitch Fettig
Current German Football League runners-up, the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, have signed American defensive back Mitch Fettig from Eastern Washington University. The Div. I talent replaces All Europe defensive back Monteze Latimore, who has decided to not return to Schwäbisch Hall this season. The Unicorn’s newest defender on why he chose to take his talents to the German football powerhouse:
“I chose the Unicorns because I’m very impressed by the family atmosphere and the success story they have written in the best league in Europe. I had very good discussions with Coach Neuman and I’m looking forward to learning a lot from the entire coaching staff. My goals are to win the CEFL Bowl and the German Bowl 2022.”
The 6’1,” 200-pound safety was named all-conference three-times in four years at Eastern Washington, recording 282 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, 23 pass deflections, and six interceptions during his career. The Olympia, Washington native was also named captain of the Eagles 2018 squad.

Following his career at Eastern Washington, Fettig was signed by the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League in 2020. However, the league cancelled its season due to the pandemic and Fettig was released in early 2021.
He now has big shoes to fill as southwestern Germany as Monteze Latimore was one of the league’s top defenders last season. Schwäbisch Hall has re-signed linebacker Nick Alfieri, running back John Santiago, and much of their domestic core as they look to get back to the top of German football after narrowly losing the German Bowl last season.
