The Legnano Frogs of the Italian Football League (IFL) have announced they will be re-signing dual threat quarterback Eystin Salum for the 2023 season.
Prior to coming to Europe in 2021, Salum attended Colorado Mesa University (NCAA, DII) where over 41 games for the Mavericks he threw for a total 5,672 yards and 45 touchdowns and rushed for 2,374 yards and another 28 scores. He led his team to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) title for the third time in a row in 2017 and was named RMAC Offensive Player Of The Year.
Salum’s first stint in Europe was with Austrian powerhouse Vienna Vikings – prior to them joining the European League of Football (ELF). In seven games, Salum threw for 1,345 yards and 14 touchdowns while rushing for 393 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. His stellar performance led the Vikings into the Austrian Bowl where they were ultimately defeated by the Swarco Raiders.
After sitting out of the 2022 season, Salum once again returned to Europe in 2023 but this time to Italy with Legnano who had recently been promoted up to Italy’s highest division. While only throwing for a modest 954 yards and five touchdowns, he was one of the league’s top rushers with 600 yards and 11 touchdowns over seven games.
The Frogs were controversially shunned from the playoffs after their final game of the season – which was an away game – was rescheduled to the middle of the week due to poor weather conditions and resulted in a forfeit.
Salum and the Frogs will undoubtedly be looking for revenge this season after an extremely impressive first year in the IFL.
