The Frankfurt Galaxy of the European League of Football have signed former Jacksonville Jaguar defensive back Desmond Cooper.
The 6’2″, 215 pound 29-year-old Cooper originally signed with the Frankfurt Universe in January of 2020 before the pandemic canceled the season. Cooper is an athletic defender with size and versatility who the Galaxy coaches will be able to use in many ways.
The Galaxy’s newest player is excited to be a part of Frankfurt and its new league:
“I’m excited to be a part of this journey and part of the first season in the ELF! Fans be ready for a year to remember. Nothing to prove just a lot to accomplish!“
Cooper played for the Søllerød Gold Diggers in Denmark in 2019 and 2017 where he lined up all over the defense and was a dangerous kick returner, helping them reach the Danish final in 2017. In 2018, he was also a key figure in Poland’s Wroclaw Panthers reaching the championship final.
Prior to Europe, the Jacksonville, Florida native was a standout player at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His 89 total tackles and three interceptions landed him a spot with his hometown Jacksonville Jaguars. In doing so, Cooper became the first UNC Charlotte 49er to sign an NFL contract. He lasted until the third preseason game with the Jaguars before being released.
Look for Cooper, who will wear number 23, to be an impact player both in the secondary and in the box for the Galaxy in Europe’s newest league.
