The European League of Football’s Frankfurt Galaxy have announced the signing of one of Europe’s premier quarterbacks in Luke Zahradka.
Zahradka, who had just announced his departure from the Milano Seamen after six seasons, was rumored to be heading home to the United States, leaving football behind.
He and the Galaxy definitely caught the football world off guard.
Frankfurt had released Jakeb Sullivan who guided them to the 2021 ELF title, triggering widespread speculation as to who would replace him.
Zahradka is coming off a prolific passing season with the Seamen, his first in the European League of Football, as he completed 293 of a league high 498 attempts for 3,518 yards (good for third) and 25 touchdowns while also tossing 14 interceptions. However, the Seamen finished with a disappointing 2-10 record.
The 32 year old spent the past six seasons playing for the Seamen who he joined in 2017. During his time in the Italian Football League, he threw for 10,738 yards, 152 touchdowns and 16 interceptions while leading Milano to three championships in five years.
The 6’5″, 230 pound Zahradka arrived in Europe in 2013, first playing with the Kirchdorf Wildcats (GFL2), and then in France with Amiens Spartiates. In 2015, he played for the Ancona Dolphins in Italy’s top league.
Zahradka’s impact on the international American football landscape is not confined by the gridiron. In September 2022, he was named as a Global Flag Football ambassador, having the honor bestowed on him alongside NFL players such as Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson and former New England Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest. With this, he became part of history as a member of the team that campaigned to have flag football involved in the 2028 Olympics.
