This weekend in France’s D1 Elite Championship league, three teams will look to separate themselves from the bottom half of Conference B.
Marseille Blue Stars 5-0 @ Montpellier MFA Hurricanes 0-5
The first game in Conference B looks to be a sure thing on paper, and it will most likely turn out that way.
The Blue Stars have gone from strength to strength showing they are the first if not the second-best team in the league. Their first real challenge came two weeks ago against the Grizzlys who took them down to the wire. The Blue Stars came out on top and are now lining up against the only winless team in Conference B.
Quarterback Kaleb Scott will undoubtedly try to pad the stats in this game as he makes his case for league MVP.
Catalan Grizzlys 3-2 @ Grenoble Centaures 1-4
In week 5 the Grizzlys went toe to toe with Marseille, arguably the best team in the league, and narrowly missed out. Quarterback Jacob Purichia is now leading the league having thrown for 1,490 yards and 17 touchdowns. The team is an offensive monster.
Stars receivers Idriss Ramky and Sean Boswell have been causing havoc in opposition secondaries, they will however be up against a solid defense and will have to up the ante if they hope to walk out of this one with a comfortable victory.
Aix en Provence Argonautes 3-2 @ Toulouse Ours 3-2
This mid-table battle will prove to be the most uncertain in week 6. The Argonautes at one point looked to challenge the Blue Stars for supremacy, until their loss in week 4.
The loss to the Blue Stars was swiftly followed by another defeat at the hands of this week’s opponent, the Ours. Playing the same team twice is never an easy job, but the loser usually has the upper hand the second time round.
Argonautes Michael Pina was the best passer in the league earlier this year. He has since struggled following the team’s loss to the Blue Stars. If there is any chance to get back on top, it is now. The Ours however, will have different plans.
