France and Austria selected to host major European Flag Football Championships

The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) is delighted to announce France and Austria as the host countries of the 2025 IFAF European Flag Football Championships – EURO FLAG 2025 – and the 2025 IFAF European Youth Flag Football Championships, respectively.

EURO FLAG 2025 will take place from September 24-27, 2025, at the Parc Interdépartemental de Choisy Paris Val de Marne in Paris, France. Featuring Europe’s best athletes, including Switzerland’s men’s national team, bronze medallists at the 2024 IFAF Flag Football World Championships, and Austria’s women’s national team, who secured fourth place at the competition, this tournament in the French capital will serve as a crucial stepping stone in qualification for the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships

The event provides the opportunity for elite European men’s and women’s teams to showcase their creativity and athleticism and compete at the highest Continental level as they set their sights on the ultimate stage and qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, the 2025 IFAF European Youth Flag Football Championships will be held from September 3-7, 2025, at the American Football Zentrum and the Sportanlage Wiesengasse in Innsbruck, Austria. This tournament will bring together 600 boys and girls from across the continent competing in U17 and mixed U15 tournaments, showcasing the sport’s best young talent and embodying the exciting future of flag football.

IFAF President, Pierre Trochet:

“With the announcement of France and Austria as hosts for EURO FLAG 2025 and the European Youth Championships, respectively, we are taking another important step in the development of our sport. As we look ahead to the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships and, ultimately, to the debut of flag football at the LA28 Olympic Games, our Continental Championships provide a great platform to further accelerate the sport’s global growth and strengthen international appeal – especially amongst young people and new audiences. France and Austria will be fantastic hosts who already have excellent teams and passionate flag fans who will create an incredible atmosphere.”

Both Championships will provide a spectacular display of flag football’s fast-paced and inclusive nature, reinforcing its place as one of the world’s fastest-growing sports. Flag football is played by 20 million athletes in more than 100 countries, and with an ever-expanding European presence and growing participation, these events will serve as key milestones on the road to LA28, where the sport is set to make its Olympic debut.

Fabio Tortosa, Director of IFAF Competitions:

“These Continental Championships offer Europe’s finest established and emerging flag athletes an exceptional opportunity to showcase their skills and compete at the highest continental level. Flag football is growing spectacularly, and this tournament will be another demonstration of that. We are committed to making it a memorable event, both for the athletes and for the fans.”

Frédéric Paquet, President of the French Federation of American Football (FFFA):

“Hosting EURO FLAG 2025 in France is a source of immense pride for the FFFA. This event will be an exceptional showcase for this beautiful discipline, accessible to all, and a powerful lever for its development in France.”

Michael Eschlböck, President of AFBÖ:

“We are delighted to host the IFAF Championship in the U15 Mixed and U17 Girls and Boys categories at the Football Performance Center in Innsbruck. Here, future participants of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles may already be competing. It will be a magnificent football festival.”

IFAF continues to reinforce structured and competitive pathways for flag football, with Continental Championships playing a crucial role in the journey towards the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships. The record-breaking 2024 edition of the IFAF Flag Football World Championships was the culmination of IFAF’sbiggest-ever international cycle of flag football competition and brought together elite athletes representing 31 nations from five continents at the most competitive and thrilling tournament to date.

Details regarding the 2025 Continental Championships for other regions will be announced in the coming weeks, offering teams from around the world more opportunities to compete and prepare for the journey toward LA28.
