The Marburg Mercenaries have announced that they have signed linebacker Michael Raymond Taylor Jr. of the Florida Gators for the 2017 season.
The 6′, 229 lb Taylor played for four years with the Gators and in his final two season he was one of the top tacklers on the team and named team captain by his teammates. He recorded 194 tackles in this four year career at Florida. At Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia, Taylor played together with Caroline Panther quarterback Cam Newton.
Defensive coordinator Sam Weiss:
“We are extremely happy that Michael has signed with us. He is an accomplished player, has excellent leadership skills and will give us a lot of energy. “
Marburg president Carsten Dalkowski is also excited:
“Michael Taylor has played at the highest college level against top athletes at the SEC Conference and is therefore a tremendous asset for us and the entire GFL.”
Although he wasn’t drafted in the 2015 NFL Draft, Taylor was given a tryout by the Pittsburgh Steelers but an injury spoiled his chances. This is a blessing for the Mercenaries as head coach Dale Heffron points out:
“It’s a pity for Michael, good for the Mercenaries and the GFL. Michael’ s resume is a great fit for the coming season because he has something to prove. He is not only a top player, but also offers outstanding leadership qualities. “
Taylor himself can hardly wait for the chance in the GFL:
“I’m really looking forward to my new teammates and the new country. But I will bring more than just tackles, sacks and interceptions. I will also bring a a positive attitude and a winner’s mentality.”
Taylor will not only be playing football in Marburg in 2017. He will also be studying for his master’s degree at Philipps University of Marburg.
