Finland’s Hämeenlinna Huskies sign German Football League elite receiver Micky Kyei
One of Finland’s top receivers is returning “home”. Micky Kyei, who led the German Football League in receptions in 2016, is returning to Finland after signing with the Hämeenlinna Huskies.
The Huskies reached the Finnish semifinals in 2017 in their first year in the Maple League, Finland’s top division.
Kyei, a native of Porvoo, Finland, starred with the Porvoon Butchers until 2016 when he signed with one of Germany’s elite teams, the Dresden Monarchs. Over his two seasons in Dresden he helped the team reach the German semifinals (2016) and quarterfinals (2017) while amassing a total of 1,466 yards receiving and 20 touchdowns.
The 5’8″, 185 lb receiver has spent the last two offseasons training with the Huskies so it is not a huge surprise to see him sign with Hämeenlinna.
Huskies team president Teemu Saarinen was pleased:
“Micky’s experience and abilities are an important element in building a team’s offense. His two seasons with one of Germany’s heavyweight teams prove he is an elite receiver, on a par with anyone.”
Finland’s national team head coach Tuomas Heikkinen:
“Micky is a very athletic and versatile football player. He has played football since he was a small kid, became a National Team level player at a young age, and has kept improving. Now with 2 years of GFL experience under his belt, he will definitely be a factor for the Huskies in the Maple League in 2018.”
