Finland: Helsinki Wolverines sign RB Rickey Stevens
The Helsinki Wolverines who play in Finland’s Maple League, have announced the signing of running back Rickey Stevens for the 2020 season.
Stevens will join his former teammate quarterback Tim Morovick who signed with Helsinki a month ago.
The Wolverines finished third in the Maple League in 2019 and lost in the semifinals to the Kuopio Steelers.
The 5’9″, 205 lb 28 year old from the University of Maine (NCAA Div. I FCS) spent the 2019 and 2018 seasons with the Aarhus Tigers in Denmark . In 2018, his initial year with the Tigers, he rushed for 555 yards on 85 carries and five touchdowns. He caught 33 passes for 388 yards and six touchdowns while recording 16 tackles and two interceptions including a pick six as a defensive back. He has played multiple seasons in Europe, most recently prior to arriving in Denmark, in Poland with the Wroclaw Panthers and in Finland with the Poorvo Butchers.
In 2017, he helped the Panthers win the Polish title, their second with Stevens at running back. In only three games at running back he rushed for 678 yards and 14 touchdowns. Once the Polish season was over, he played for the Porvoo Butchers in Finland’s Maple League and in half a season rushed for 1,006 yards and nine touchdowns, good for second in the league. He was a familiar name to football fans in Denmark prior to arriving in 2018 as as he scored two touchdowns in the Wroclaw Panthers 34-14 victory in the Central European Football League tournament over the Triangle Razorbacks from Denmark.
