Favorites Emerge As Portugal Wraps Up Week 6

The Portuguese League of American Football offered up some surprises in week 6 action with clear favorites beginning to emerge in Portugal.

Algarve Sharks 48 – Lisboa Navigators 0

In Lisbon, the Lisboa Navigators and Algarve Sharks clashed after both teams had lost their last respective games. The last time these two teams played each other the winner was the Sharks and it also knocked the Navigators out of playoff contention in Portugal for the first time in their history.

In this game the Sharks dominanted and the duo of  John Holloway & James Hudson  caused some serious damage with five passing touchdowns. Holloway finished the game with six passing touchdowns. Running back Guilherme Vieites also scored for the visitors in the first quarter of the game.

The final result was 48-0 in a game that the Navigators struggle offensively to make something happen and had troubles on stopping the opposing offense.

Porto Mutts 25 – Braga Warriors 0

In Braga, two undefeated teams clashed with the Warriors (2-0-1) and the Mutts (3-0-0) locked in a defensive battle in the first half. The Mutts scored twice with two safeties made by João “Train” Marques and João Mota.

The first touchdown wasn’t scored until the final quarter of the game with Porto linebacker Tiago Costa recovering a fumble and taking it to the house. Edson Silva and João “Train” Marques also scored touchdowns. Kicker Hélio Reis had a perfect afternoon with kicking all three PATs. The final result was 25-0.

Paredes Lumberjacks 54 – Algarve Pirates 12

In Paredes, the Paredes Lumberjacks played host to the Algarve Pirates in a game between two winless teams. The Lumberjacks dominated and scored several touchdowns with Aj Benson getting three, Vitor Ribeiro getting two, Daniel Santos scoring once and Cody Davis as well.

The Pirates scored twice  with quarterback Alexandre Ascenção running for one and throwing one to André João. The final result was 54-12.
