ELF: Week 9 Kicks off with several interesting matchups
Week 9 of the 2024 European League of Football season has several intriguing games on tap that should be close.
There’s a couple of games to keep a closer eye on, both on Sunday, July 21.
A pair of 5-1 teams square off when the Paris Musketeers travel to Spain to face the Madrid Bravos. Meanwhile, the Vienna Vikings put their unbeaten streak on the line when they take on the Berlin Thunder in Berlin.
Let’s take a look at all seven contests this weekend.
Milano Seamen (3-4) @ Fehervar Enthroners (1-6)
In the only game on Saturday, the 3-4 Seamen travel to Hungary to face the 1-6 Enthroners. The Enthroners are fresh off their first win of the season, and will look to make it 2 in a row against Milano.
Paris Musketeers (5-1) @ Madrid Bravos (5-1)
In arguably the game of the week, the 5-1 Musketeers and 5-1 Bravos square off in Madrid. Both of these teams have looked phenomenal, having only lost to the Rhein Fire. We will see which team can jump ahead of the other in the Western Conference standings.
Vienna Vikings (8-0) @ Berlin Thunder (4-4)
The Berlin Thunder will look for revenge on Sunday as they host the undefeated Vienna Vikings. In week 4, they had a chance to pull off the upset in Vienna, but came up short, which has been a theme with them against top teams this season. With home field advantage, can they finally get a big win?
Wroclaw Panthers (3-4) @ Stuttgart Surge (6-0)
The other undefeated team in the league in Stuttgart has an interesting matchup this weekend as they host the Wroclaw Panthers. The Surge knocked the Panthers out of the playoffs last season and topped them again in week 2 of this season, so the Polish squad will be hungry to knock Stuttgart off this time around.
Helvetic Mercenaries (1-6) @ Munich Ravens (3-3)
After a slow start, the Mercenaries have been showing signs of life as of late. They got their first win of the season two weeks ago, and put a serious scare into the Vikings on the road last week. Can they continue their upward trajectory against the Ravens?
Frankfurt Galaxy (2-4) @ Rhein Fire (7-1)
The Fire are fittingly the league’s hottest team, as they come into this home game fresh off a 61-23 drubbing of the Hamburg Sea Devils. On the other hand, Frankfurt had a brutal loss at home last week against the Cologne Centurions. This shapes up to be an easy win for the Fire over their rivals.
Hamburg Sea Devils (2-4) @ Cologne Centurions (2-4)
The Sea Devils travel to Aachen to face the Centurions on Sunday in a battle of 2-4 teams. These Western Conference foes seems to be evenly matched, but a slew of recent personnel changes for Hamburg may put them at a disadvantage on the road.
