The Vienna Vikings of the European League of Football have signed one of the country’s top defenders in linebacker Thomas Schnurrer. The home-grown talent is excited to be taking his talents to Vienna’s ELF franchise:
“After having played 13 years for the Graz Giants, I am excited to be part of the Vikings Franchise in the ELF. Taking a look at the Vienna roster so far, I am sure we will be one of the top teams in the European League of Football.”
The 6’0″, 210-pound linebacker has been a key fixture on the Austrian National team for years, playing the team’s youth squad before blossoming into an impact defender on the men’s team. In the Austrian Football League, the former Graz Giant led the league in tackles this past season, putting up 49.5 tackles, five pass break-ups, and a sack.
Last season was no anomaly as Schnurrer has been one of the league’s top defenders since 2016. Schnurrer has won the league’s defensive player of the year award four times in his career and was the league’s leading tackler in both 2019 and 2021.
Schnurrer is one of a few Vikings players this week to announce their commitment for the 2022 season. Vienna has also re-signed defensive back Luis Horvath, along with bringing in Austrian national team cornerback Florian Albrecht from the Danube Dragons.
