ELF: Vienna Vikings re-sign All American WR Reece Horn
The Vienna Vikings announced the re-signing of former All American WR Reece Horn.
The 6’4″, 215 pound, 31 year old Horn finished the 2024 season as the third leading receiver in the European League of Football after catching 75 passes for 1,164 yards and 13 touchdowns. He had been signed early in the year to replace an injured Weston Carr after he was placed on the IR. Horn had last played for Vienna during the 2018 Austrian Football League season.
Horn played for the Frankfurt Galaxy in 2023 after joining them halfway through the 2022 season. In 2023, he helped the Galaxy reach the ELF semifinals, catching 61 passes for 875 yards and eight touchdowns, good for seventh overall in the league. In the eight games he played the year before, he recorded 39 catches for 683 yards and 11 touchdowns, as he finished the season as the team’s leading receiver. He was ranked 12th in the league in receiving yards and sixth in receiving touchdowns, which were impressive feats considering most receivers ahead of him on the leaderboard played more games than him. In the eight games Horn played with Frankfurt, the team had a record of 6-2, but narrowly missed the playoffs with an overall record of 8-4.
Horn has had a long and winding football journey. Originally from the Indianapolis, Indiana area, Horn played collegiately at the Division II level at the University of Indianapolis, where he recorded a school-record 3,562 receiving yards in 48 games from 2012 to 2015. Horn capped his collegiate career with multiple All-America First Team honors and was named a Harlon Hill award candidate. After going undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft, he signed with the Tennessee Titans, but was released before the regular season. In 2017, he spent the season in the Italian Football League with the Milano Seamen where he had 62 catches for 1,142 yards and 12 touchdowns as he helped guide the team to an Italian Bowl championship.
The next season, he joined the Vikings, before they entered the ELF. In 12 games with Vienna in 2018, he recorded 50 catches for 771 yards and 15 touchdowns. He spent the 2019 season with the Memphis Express of the short-lived Alliance of American Football, where he had 28 catches for 429 yards and 1 touchdown in seven games. His performance caught the attention of the Miami Dolphins, who signed him to a contract in the 2019 NFL preseason but was ultimately released before the start of the regular season.
Horn spent some time with the Tampa Bay Vipers of the XFL in 2020 until the league’s season ended due to COVID-19. He played with the Linemen of The Spring League in 2021, putting up impressive numbers as his team won the championship. The Cincinnati Bengals picked him up following that season but released him in August of 2021. He then signed with the Calgary Stampeders in early 2022 but was released during final roster cuts in June. It was at that point when he joined the Galaxy during the 2022 season.
