ELF: Stuttgart Surge sign DL Chris Mulumba
The Stuttgart Surge have announced the signing of Finnish standout defensive lineman Chris Mulumba.
The 6’4″, 285 pound native of Helsinki, Finland has spent the past three seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League after being drafted in the second round (11th pick) in the 2021 CFL Global Draft.
In 2020, he was part of the NFL International Player Pathway program.
The 31 year old played for the University of Colorado Boulder (NCAA Div. 1, Pac 12) in 2017-2018 recording 57 tackles earning him the Ron Scott Award as the Most Improved Defensive Lineman. He was also on the Ted Hendricks Award Watchlist in 2018.
Mulumba began his collegiate career at Chabot College in Hayward, California, recording 35 tackles, four tackles for a loss, and one sack in his lone season with the Gladiators. Transferring to Diablo Valley College, as a sophomore, he had 63 tackles, nine tackles for losses, and four sacks in 10 games, earning all-conference accolades. He had a season-high 17 tackles in a game against College of the Siskiyous.
He started playing football at the age of 17 with his hometown Helsinki Roosters and graduated quickly to the senior team and in 2012 he was part of the Roosters team that won the Finnish championship in the Maple Bowl.
