The Raiders Tirol are one of the new additions to the European League of Football for the 2022 season look to carry their domestic success into international play this summer.
In a pivotal move, the Raiders have added homegrown receiver, Phillip Haun. The Austrian pass-catcher is excited to play in a new league with Raiders.
“I was looking for the best opportunity to develop myself both as a person and as a football player. The Raiders have proven to be one of the best organizations in Europe and definitely provide the perfect circumstances to help me to grow in all aspects of my life. The Raiders are building a competitive roster for the upcoming ELF season and I can’t wait to go to work.”
The 5’11” 185-pound native of Klosterneuburg, Austria, caught 46 passes for 799 yards and nine scores in nine games with the SsangYong Danube Dragons. The 27-year old’s dynamic play didn’t go unnoticed as he was named “MVP” of the Austrian Football League last season. Over the past three seasons, he recorded 154 receptions, 2569 receiving yards, and 30 touchdowns for the Dragons. Haun leaves behind a Dragons program he played for since 2012, winning team “MVP” in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2021. The veteran wideout has been a staple on the Austrian National Team since 2017.
Now as the Raiders have moved from the Austrian Football League to the European League of Football, Haun joins a squad that he faced off against for years. Raiders head coach Kevin Herron is thrilled to have signed the former foe to his squad.
“Philipp has an inimitable work attitude and drive to be the best football player at this position. That’s exactly the right attitude to become a Raider. He will give a boost to our wide receiver room, and I am more than excited that he is going to join the Raiders family”.
The defending Austrian Bowl champions look to use their strong core of talent in the ELF season making only a few new additions like Phillip Haun. Quarterback Sean Shelton and defensive back Davion Washington have also re-signed to return to Tirol. However, that does leave room for two more imports who could be joining the silver and black in the near future.
