ELF: Paris Musketeers sign Defensive Player of the Year Maceo Beard

The Paris Musketeers have announced the signing of the European League of Football’s Defensive Player of the Year, defensive back Maceo Beard.

The 6’2″, 23 year old native of Paris, had a standout season in 2023 with Switzerland’s Helvetic Guards racking up a total of eight interceptions, 40 total tackles, three tackles for loss, twelve pass breakups and a blocked kick.

Beard originally entered ELF in 2022 with the Berlin Thunder but only lasted a month as he suffered a broken ankle after just four games. In those games he racked up 11 tackles and two picks for the Thunder.

After an impressive performance at CFL Global Combine in Bristol, England in 2022, Beard was drafted in the Canadian Football League’s Global Draft in May by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. However, he did not last long with the team and so in June that year, he signed with the Berlin Thunder of the European League of Football.  Beard has also previously played with French national team and the Potsdam Royals of the German Football League for part of the 2021 season where in eight games he recorded 14 tackles including one tackle for loss and two interceptions.

The Musketeers finished the 2023 season, their first in the ELF, with a record of 6-6, but the signing of not only the DPOY but also a Paris native, definitely boosts the team’s chances in 2024 of making a serious run at the playoffs.
