ELF: Paris Musketeers HC Marc Mattioli leaving team for personal reasons

The Paris Musketeers have announced that head coach Marc Mattioli is leaving the team for personal reasons.

The only coach the French team has had is returning home to pursue opportunities that have presented themselves.

“I have made the decision to leave my position as Head Coach of the Paris Musketeers. This is a personal decision that will allow me to pursue personal and professional goals in the United States. The last two years have been some of the best of my life and I am honored to have served this team and organization. The Musketeers are in good hands and will continue to grow and reach new heights.”

Under his leadership, the Musketeers reached the ELF semifinals in 2024 following at 6-6 campaign in their inaugural 2023 season. Paris reached the Wild Card playoff round after finishing second in the ELF Western Conference with a 10-2 record. They defeated the Munich Ravens 40-37 to advance to the semifinals but were then beaten 47-31 by the Vienna Vikings.

An Atlanta, Georgia native, Mattioli has spent the last four years coaching in Europe. In 2021, he led the Italian Football League’s Parma Panthers to their first Italian Bowl title since 2013 beating the Milano Seamen in the final. They reached the semifinal round in 2022. Following his success in Italy, Mattioli joined the Leipzig Kings in the ELF to round off their season. He was named americanfootballinternational.com ‘Coach of the Year’ in 2021, for his successes in Italy.

Mattioli was quick to thank the team and the players:

“Thank you to the management and ownership for giving me this opportunity and allowing me to experience this adventure with them from the beginning. Thank you to the coaches and staff over the past two years; we have created a bond that will last forever, and I am proud of the work we have done together.

“And to the players, it has been my honor to coach you guys; you guys gave me much more than I gave you, and the connection we share means the world to me. I leave a piece of my heart in Paris, but I move forward a better coach and person because of my time there. I love you all, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Un pour tous, Tous pour un. It’s About US!!”

Mattioli began his coaching career at LaGrange College, a Division III program in west Georgia. Immediately showing his high ceiling, Mattioli won roles at primary NCAA FBS schools in Stanford University under Duane Akina and then Vanderbilt University as a defensive Backs coach under Derek Mason.

Current Inside Linebackers Coach for the NFL’s Carolina Panthers and former Stanford colleague Peter Hansen commented on Mattioli’s original signing:

“Marc Mattioli is a brilliant and passionate coach. I learned more from him when we worked together than he learned from me. The Paris team is lucky to have such a great leader running their program.”
