ELF: Munich Ravens Sign Standout Linebacker Amin Black
The Munich Ravens have announced that they have signed American linebacker Amin Black ahead of the 2023 European League of Football season.
The 24 year old spent his first professional season with the Marburg Mercenaries of the German Football League. As a rookie, Black made an immediate impact, as he led the entire league in total tackles with 112including 18 tackles for loss, six sacks, and two interceptions in 10 games. Though the Mercenaries finished with a record of just 4-6, Black and the rest of the defense were not to blame, as the defensive unit ranked fourth out of 16 teams in scoring defense.
Before coming to Europe, Black played collegiately at the Division I FCS level with the Villanova Wildcats. Though relatively undersized at the college level at just 5’9”, 225 pounds, the Philadelphia native was a standout player for his hometown university. He played in 40 games over four seasons with the Wildcats, recording 181 total tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss. His best season came in his senior year in 2021, in which he recorded 93 total tackles, three sacks and an interception in 13 games. For his efforts, he was named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s Third Team defense.
As the Ravens are entering their inaugural season as a franchise, they will look to key players like Black for leadership. Black will be coached by head coach John Shoop and defensive coordinator Vince Okruch, who are still working on finalizing their roster ahead of the season opener in June.
Sean Shelton, last year’s ELF MVP and the current Director of Sports Operations for the Ravens, expressed his excitement:
“Amin is one of the most versatile linebackers I’ve seen so far,” he said. “He can take us to the next level in both run and pass defense and even as a pass rusher. I look forward to seeing Amin play football.”
