ELF: Full slate of games with Austrian showdown one of the highlights

The 2024 European League of Football season nears its halfway point as week 7 approaches.  Here is a look at the 8 matchups this week.

Saturday, July 6

Vienna Vikings (6-0) @ Raiders Tirol (5-1)

The Vikings and Raiders face off for the second time this season in the Austrian derby.  The Vikings are undefeated and the Raiders are 5-1, having only lost to Vienna in week 2 by a score of 27-6.  But they have looked great since that loss and N’Kosi Perry has been an impact addition at quarterback.  Can they defeat their rivals for the first time in the ELF?

Munich Ravens (2-3) @ Barcelona Dragons (2-4)

Munich comes into this game following a bye week, which was a nice chance to reset after another disappointing loss to the Stuttgart Surge.  They face a weak Dragons team that was shut out last week by the Raiders.  This should be an easy win for Munich.

Milano Seamen (3-3) @ Helvetic Mercenaries (0-5)

While the Mercenaries are still in search of their first win on the season, the Seamen have won two in a row.  This a rematch of these teams’ meeting from week 3, which resulted in a 14-7 win for the Italian team.  This is undoubtedly the Mercenaries’ best remaining chance to get a win this season, let’s see if they can take advantage at home.

Frankfurt Galaxy (2-2) @ Madrid Bravos (3-1)

After their first loss in franchise history, the Bravos look to bounce back at home against the Galaxy.  Frankfurt started out 0-2, but has bounced back to win their last 2 games.  Will they keep their momentum rolling with another win, or will the Bravos rebound and get back in the win column?

Berlin Thunder (3-3) @ Fehervar Enthroners (0-5)

Following an easy victory on the road in Prague, Berlin will have another opportunity to get a comfortable victory away from home in Hungary as they face a winless Enthroners team.  This one has the potential to get out of hand early.

Sunday, July 7

Hamburg Sea Devils (2-2) @ Paris Musketeers (3-1)

Hamburg and Paris face off for the second time this season, following a 41-14 drubbing by Paris in week 2.  They will look for a repeat performance at home against a Hamburg team that has been weaker than they have been in years past.

Prague Lions (0-6) @ Wroclaw Panthers (2-4)

The Panthers have a new head coach (Craig Kuligowski) and quarterback (Matthew Vitale) for this home matchup against the Lions.  Vitale did spend last season with Wroclaw and looked impressive, so he should have some comfort in his 2024 debut, especially against a winless Prague team.

Cologne Centurions (1-3) @ Rhein Fire (5-1)

After a relatively shaky start to the season, the Fire are back on the right track, having won 3 straight games.  They host a Centurions team who they defeated 42-12 in the opening week of the season.  Look for star running back Glen Toonga to have another huge game.
