The Frankfurt Galaxy have brought back a key part of their championship defense re-signing Swedish linebacker Sebastian Gauthier. The All-Star defender is thrilled to be back in Frankfurt for the upcoming season.
“I’m excited to announce my re-signing with the Frankfurt Galaxy. After some good conversations with Coach Kösling there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to stay here and keep building off of what we started in the inaugural season. I’m excited to see the purple family and all it’s fans once again at PSD Bank Arena for the 2022 season”.
As the leading tackler of the Galaxy defense, the 6′ 216-pound defender put up 84 tackles, eight tackles for loss, six sacks, three interceptions and forced one fumble this season. Frankfurt allowed the fewest points in the ELF giving up just 168 points in the 12 games (including playoffs and championship), or 14 points a game en route to a near-perfect title season. With his impressive play, Gauthier was named to the AFI All-Europe team and the ELF All-Star team.
This season will be the 28-year-old’s fourth season in Frankfurt having played for the Frankfurt Universe during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. The Swede has also played in his home country for the 2017 finalists, the Örebrö Black Knights, and even played in Finland for the Helsinki Wolverines in 2020.
Born in Sonoma, California, Gauthier moved with his family to Sweden at the age of seven. He started playing football with the Västerås Roedeers before joining the Black Knights in 2016. He played high school football in Sonoma, California.
He has been a mainstay on the Swedish national team both as a junior and senior and started for his country during the 2021 European Championship Game and also during the 2014 European Championships in Austria.
