ELF: Cologne Centurions sign former UTEP DB Kalon Beverly
The Cologne Centurions of the European League of Football have signed former division one defensive back Kalon Beverly. The University of Texas El–Paso (NCAA D1) connection is strong in Cologne as Centurions head coach Frank Roser coached the defender at the college back in 2017 and 2018.
Beverly is excited to play for Roser again, this time in Germany:
“I am super excited to play under coach Frank. We plan on and will go to the championship with the number one offense and the number one defense. It’s time to elevate“, Beverly proudly stated, via the team’s press release.
The 6’1″, 195-pound defender was an impact player for the UTEP Miners playing in 42 games in four seasons. Beverly made 171 tackles, four interceptions, 20 pass deflections, and a pick-six in his NCAA career. Beverly earned all-conference honors for his play in 2017.
Cologne’s new head coach is excited to have Beverly back in his lineup:
“I’m very excited that Kalon is a Centurion now. He is a great football player with the right mindset that will help us to get better on and off the field. It’s great that our paths cross again and I look forward to see him leading the way.“
Since playing in El-Paso, the New Orleans native went to training camp with the Buffalo Bills and spent time in the CFL with the Ottawa Redblacks.
Roser continues to bring in talent from the UTEP program as Beverly joins another former Miner in defensive lineman Chris Richardson. The Centurions defense will surely benefit from Roser and the UTEP talent as they look to ride league 2021 MVP Madre London, quarterback Jan Weinreich, and an improved defense into the post season this year.
