The Istanbul Rams have announced the signing of Australian quarterback Jared Stegman who returns to Europe after a four-year absence.
Stegman is currently the quarterback for the Bayside Ravens who have won back-to-back championships in Queensland, Australia and look poised to win another.
The versatile 31-year-old Stegman (6’2″, 210 pounds), from Brisbane, Australia, last played in Europe in 2017 when he led the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes to the German Football League semifinals after throwing for 3,117 yards and 47 touchdowns.
He spent the 2018 season as quarterback for the Asahi Beer Silver Star in Japan’s X League before returning to Australia. Stegman gained worldwide recognition at the 2015 IFAF World Championships in Canton, Ohio, piloting Australia to a fifth-place finish, at times in spectacular fashion. In 2016, he guided the Uppsala 86ers to the Swedish championship game losing in a heartbreaker to the seven time champions Carlstad Crusaders. In 10 regular season games, Stegman threw for 1,988 yards and 28 touchdowns passes.
Stegman is eager to return to Europe:
“I’m really excited to get back to Europe where I began my overseas football career. The whole process with the Rams was super straight forward and now I’m ready to get over there, gel with my teammates and learn from Coach Gunn.”
