The Barcelona Dragons have signed David Shelton Sr.as their new HC for the 2024 European League of Football season.
The Dragons finished the 2023 season with a 2-10 record.
The 43 year old native of Los Angeles who grew up in San Francisco served as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Leipzig Kings in 2023 before the team folded partway through the season. He came to the Kings after three seasons (2020, 2021, 2022) as cornerbacks coach at Arizona Christian University (NAIA) where he helped the Firestorm to back to back playoff appearances. Prior to that he spent three years as defensive secondary coordinator at Santa Barbara City College and two years as defensive secondary coach at Justin Siena High School in Napa, California where they were North Coast Section champions with the top secondary in the league two years in a row.
Shelton played professionally with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (1990-94) after graduating from Fresno State University where he lettered two years at strong safety. While he was with the Eskimos, they reached the Grey Cup twice (1990 and 1993) winning the CFL title in 1993.
