The Barcelona Dragons of the European League of Football have re-signed quarterback Zach Edwards.
For Barcelona’s quarterback the chance to build on last year’s progress was the deciding factor:
“I decided to sign back because it’s a great opportunity to continue playing the game I love, surrounded by the best fans in Europe! Hoping to build off of what we started last year and win a lot more games!”
Edwards was the engine behind the Dragons offense throwing for 2,514 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Edwards also added an exciting rushing element scoring three touchdowns on the ground. The first-year quarterback was able to help around the Dragons season after Barcelona stumbled out to a 0-4 start. Edwards and Dragons played a much better brand of football down the stretch finishing with a 3-7 record and several one-score losses. Edwards was named the league’s week 8 MVP after throwing for 454 yards and four touchdowns while adding two more scores and 55 yards on the ground in a thrilling win over the CologneCenturions.
Edwards on the upcoming Dragons season:
“I have very high expectations for myself and for this team. I believe we are capable of doing great things and I intend to do everything I can to make us the best team we can be.”
Before joining the BarcelonaDragons of the ELF last season, Edwards won a championship in the spring of 2021 leading the Barcelona-based L’Hospitalet Pioners to a 6-0 regular-season record, orchestrating on offense averaging 36 points per game in Spain’s LNFA Serie B.
Edwards came to Spain following a record-setting collegiate career at St. Scholastica College (NCAA: Division III). The Minnesota native threw for a school-record 90 touchdowns and 9,024 yards in 36 games with the Saints, earning three straight all-conference nods in his career. Edwards’ college accomplishments earned him an invite to the 2019 FCS Bowl where he won MVP.
Barcelona has also added French wide receiver BenjaminPlu along with bringing back Spanish talent Adrian Jimenez, JordiBrugnani, Yago Rivero, Sebastian Bowen, along with linebacker Alex Gonzales. However, the head coaching vacancy and remaining import spots have yet to be announced.
