ELF: 2023 Fehervar Enthroners Roster: A Complete Roster Breakdown
By Michael Voitek
The Fehervar Enthroners roster is ready to go for the 2023 European League of Football season. Can the new kids of the ELF compete with the rest?
Coming off a 2022 Hungarian Football Championship, the Enthroners roster consists of 53 players: Four North American imports, six European imports, with the rest being Hungarian national products.
The Enthroners made one of the biggest signings of the offseason when they inked Jerod Evans to the team. Evans went undrafted and played on the Packers and Eagles practice squads in the NFL. In his one year of Division-I ball at Virginia Tech, Evans played phenomenally. He had over 3,500 yards through the air, 29 passing touchdowns with only eight interceptions. He also rushed for over 800 yards and had 12 rushing touchdowns. Now, that was seven years ago, but it’s worth noting that he was close to getting some Heisman trophy votes that year.
This could well be considered one of the biggest signings, not only this year, but in European League of Football history.
Heading to the backfield, national talent Erik Madaras will be their star. He is only 20 years old and has played with the Hungarian national team. He’s shifty, fast and has a good pass catching ability. The Enthroners are fairly strong at WR – Benjamin Plu is a former CFL prospect who is coming over from the Barcelona Dragons. He had five touchdowns and over 500 yards last year, plus he’s 6’3 so his quarterback can throw it up to him whenever he wants. The team also signed Jay Griffin IV, an American import with insane speed. He had one of the fastest times ever in the 200-meter dash while at University of New Mexico and is just a burner on the field. We can expect to see some jet-sweeps with him as well. On the offensive line, they signed Berlin Thunder teammates Alper Pekozer and Connor Bolton. They should provide for a steady and strong front line.
Defensively, Jebrai Regan (D-I FCS Gardner Webb), an American football player who has been playing in Hungary for six years and has his citizenship, will lead the defensive line. Florian Hirsch won a championship with the Danube Dragons last year, but he didn’t have great stats. He’ll need to step it up this year. In the linebacking group, Janos Zilai is a player to watch. He’s young, fast, tough, and has experience playing in the championship game in the Czech league. Antony Rodrigues is a strong French linebacker who played for the Barcelona Dragons last year. He had 77 tackles with 6.5 tackles for loss and will be a strong member of this Enthroners team. Another player to watch is Remy Sap. Sap has a lot of experience and once won comeback player of the league in the Austrian Football League. With a last name like Sap (thoughts of Warren Sapp), he’ll be pretty good on the defensive side of the ball. Elijah Moody will be the guy to watch in the defensive backfield. Moody is coming straight from D-I Nevada to the ELF. He was a playmaker all last year for the Wolfpack and his game should transfer to this league. David Toth is by far the best Hungarian corner. He had 10 turnovers caused last year for the Enthroners, eight of those being interceptions. He’s just a beast and we can’t wait to see if he can maintain his production in a new league. Mateusz Dzioban played the last five games last year with the Istanbul Rams and knows the speed of the ELF. He is a good add for a team that will need to rely on this strong secondary to stop defenses.
