The Egyptian National Football League rolled into its second round of action this past weekend in the league’s seventh season with the Cairo Hellhounds and Eagles Athletic Club both taking home lopsided wins.
With their second straight win, the Hellhounds top the standings while the Eagles Athletic Club and MSA Tigers are right behind in second and third with a win apiece.
Cairo Hellhounds (2-0) 25 – Cairo Bears (0-2) 2
The Hounds’ import quarterback John Holloway continues to impress, as he threw two touchdown passes in the game against the Cairo Bears, both to receiver Ziad Ammar. The Hounds’ defense didn’t disappoint either as they maintained a solid shutdown not allowing the Bears’ offense any points. Their defensive star Ramy Tarek earned the game’s MVP with three interceptions and a pick six.
The Bears’ defense, however, managed to score a safety in the fourth quarter, which accounted for their only scoring in the game. The Cairo Bears have been struggling to find their momentum this season, and with injuries to some of their most critical players, it may already be too late for them to recover in such a short season.
Eagles Athletic Club (1-0) 38 – ZED Jaguars (0-1) 0
The Eagles Athletic Club then took on the ZED Jaguars and in the 38-0 trouncing they showcased their depth in every position, particularly, and most impressively, at the quarterback position. Aly Sokkar started the game at quarterback for the Eagles and threw for two touchdowns before suffering a game-ending injury forcing him to sit out the second half. The Eagles deployed John Gabra, and then, late in the game Shady Amgad who had just transferred to the Eagles and managed to score a touchdown.
The Eagles’ defense also managed to intercept the Jaguars three times, including one for a pick six. Running back Mohamed El Wazir scored their fourth and final touchdown.
