Egypt: Hell Hounds, GUC Eagles winners as ENFL rolls through week 2
The second round of action in the Egyptian National Football League produced a pair of surprises as the Eagles were hard pressed to earn a victory while the Hell Hounds were dominant winners.
The Hell Hounds faced the AUC Titans who were playing their first game in two seasons after missing the 2017 season. The year away from football was clearly apparent for the Titans as the Hell Hounds completely overwhelmed them 58-0.
Hell Hounds quarterback Mathew Tyler Kershey was making his first appearance in the ENFL and he made it a special one, throwing for 262 yards and rushing for another 29 yards, engineering six touchdowns.
The second game of round 2 was much more exciting as the defending champions, the GUC Eagles, faced the Cairo Bears who played like a completely different team from last season where they failed to win a single game. The Bears gave the Eagles a hard time and actually managed to be in the lead 13-7 before the Eagles made a strong comeback in the last quarter and ended the game two touchdowns later 21-13.
Egyptian Flag Football League
In the second round of the Egyptian Flag Football League (EFFL), the MSA Tigers women played their first game against the Gezira Thunder who made a comeback from their loss last week against the Cairo Wolves and beat the Tigers 32-6.
The GUC Eagles women also played their first game this season, beating the Hell Hounds 34-0. This is the Hounds’ second loss this season and their offense unit is yet to score a touchdown. The Hounds lost to the Titans last week and only got a 2-point safety. That was the first official win for the AUC Titans this season and showed how strong their team is, which build a lot of anticipation for their game against the Cairo Wolves. The defending champions proved they are a stronger team and beat the Titans 26-13 in an intense game that ended round 2 of the EFFL.
Upcoming games
Round 3 of the ENFL kicks off with the newest two teams in the league, the Cairo Warriors the Gezira Thunder, facing each other on Friday March 2nd. The second game is one of the strongest matchups in the ENFL as the MSA Tigers play against the Cairo Wolves. Each of them managed to beat the other in one game last season and both teams have won their first games this season so it should be one of the closest matchups and most intense games this season.
The Tigers and Wolves women teams play the first game in round 3 of the EFFL the next day, Saturday, March 3rd. That’s followed by the Warriors facing the Thunder and the Bears end round 2 playing against the Eagles.
The scores of this round will help predict the teams’ final standings so it should be the most exciting round yet.
