Ecuador: Lobos de Quito crowned national champions after defeating Team Cuenca in title game

In a championship game full of intensity and great defensive plays, Lobos de Quito were proclaimed national champion in Ecuador after defeating Team Cuenca 21-6 this past weekend.

The game was a back-and-forth affair until the Lobos began to take control in the second quarter. Quarterback Jonathan Villa marched his team down the field and then hit wide receiver Ernesto Miño (#87) for a 12 yard touchdown pass to open the scoring. Miño also added the extra point, leaving the score 7-0 at the end of the first half.

In the third quarter, a Lobos fumble allowed Team Cuenca to close the gap with a touchdown. They missed the extra point though leaving the Lobos ahead 7-6.

The Lobos defense played outstanding football throughout the game, managing to keep the Team Cuenca offense in check while also recovering several loose balls. It was not until the last quarter however that the Lobos put the game away. Running back Adrián Valencia (#26) became unstoppable, finding the end zone twice and Miño kicked the extra points to seal the 21-6 victory.

With this win, Lobos de Quito were crowned national champion for 2024, consolidating themselves as one of the best American football teams in the country.
