Denmark: Aarhus Tigers re-sign RB/WR/DB Rickey Stevens for 2019
Danish semifinalists, the Aarhus Tigers, have re-signed one of their key players from 2018, RB/WR/DB Rickey Stevens for the 2019 season.
The Tigers finished second in the Danish American Football League in 2018 but were eliminated in the semifinals by the Triangle Razorbacks. In fact, Aarhus has reached the Danish semifinals five of the last six years and made it to the final in 2014 when they were beaten by the Copenhagen Towers.
Stevens, 5’9″, 205 lbs from the University of Maine (NCAA Div. I FCS) had an excellent year with the Tigers in 2018 rushing for 555 yards on 85 carries and five touchdowns. He caught 33 passes for 388 yards and six touchdowns while recording 16 tackles and two interceptions including a pick six as a defensive back. He has played multiple seasons in Europe, most recently prior to arriving in Denmark, in Poland with the Wroclaw Panthers and in Finland with the Poorvo Butchers.
In 2017, he helped the Panthers win the Polish title, their second with Stevens at running back. In only three games at running back he rushed for 678 yards and 14 touchdowns. Once the Polish season was over, he played for the Porvoo Butchers in Finland’s Maple League and in half a season rushed for 1,006 yards and nine touchdowns, good for second in the league. He was a familiar name to football fans in Denmark prior to arriving in 2018 as as he scored two touchdowns in the Wroclaw Panthers 34-14 victory in the Central European Football League tournament over the Triangle Razorbacks from Denmark.
Stevens is happy about returning to Denmark and the Tigers:
“I think Aarhus is a great city, the organization from top to bottom is high class and has a big family feel to it. I look forward to building with everyone here for the future”
