Giant Danish lineman Andreas Knappe has signed his fourth NFL contract in eight months, joining the Denver Broncos.
Knappe had been on the Indianapolis Colts roster but felt that his chances were better elsewhere so the Colts released him, allowing him to become part of the Broncos.
He explained the Colts situation to the Danish American football website Gulklud.dk:
“We agreed to part ways. The Colts have 14 offensive linemen on their roster with free agency still ahead as well as the draft so I felt my options were better elsewhere.”
Even before Knappe had signed in Indianapolis, the Broncos had shown interest in the 6’8″, 325 lb Dane.
“The Broncos showed interest in me earlier and would really like to have signed a contract with me in the fall, but then Colts got in the picture and were a bit faster on the trigger. Now we have take it up to a higher level, and I’m very pleased to have come here to Denver. Hopefully, I’ll be here longer than the other places I’ve been.”
This is the fourth NFL stop for Knappe who originally signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent after he went undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was released after the preseason but was then picked up by the Washington Redskins. After a short stay there, he signed with the Colts on December 3.
Andreas Knappe played college-football for the University of Connecticut Huskies. According to GuldKlud.dk, his biggest strength is blocking in the run game where his impressive physique drives the opponents backwards. Conversely, they say that his huge size gives him some challenges when he is going to block in the throwing game.
