The Danish National League heads into its third full weekend of games starting Saturday, August 29.
The unbeaten Copenhagen Towers lead the DNL with two straight wins followed by the Søllerød Gold Diggers, Triangle Razorbacks and Aalborg 89ers each with a win and a loss. The Aarhus Tigers sit last with two losses.
Saturday, August 29, Aarhus Tigers (0-2) @Søllerød Gold Diggers (1-1)
The Gold Diggers enter this game with a 1-1 record after disposing of the Aalborg 89ers 62-12 in an impressive showing to open the season but dropping a 29-26 decision to the Copenhagen Towers after leading by two touchdowns late in the contest. Aarhus has had a rough start to the season dropping both games by lopsided scores. They lost to the Triangle Razorbacks 41-6 in their first game and then were beaten 56-12 by the 89ers last weekend.
Gold Diggers quarterback Tanner Gueller has thrown for 333 yards and three touchdowns in two games while rushing for 127 and another three scores. He has plenty of weapons led by receiver Frederik Oldenburg who has a pair of touchdowns so far, as well as running back Rasmus Carøe who has three touchdowns so far this season.
So far on the year, the Tigers young quarterback Alexander Schwartz has thrown for 211 yards and three touchdowns. He key targets are Markus Hachenberg and Magnus Urth along with wide receiver Frederik Andersen.
Having given up 97 points in two games, Aarhus is in tough in this game.
Sunday, August 30, Triangle Razorbacks (1-1) @AaB 89ers (1-1)
This is the most intriguing matchup of the weekend in Denmark. The Razorbacks dropped a close game to the Copenhagen Towers last week and had chances to win the game so they will be looking for revenge. Aalborg rebounded from a bad loss two weeks ago to hand out some punishment of their own.
Triangle’s offense led by quarterback Reed Gottula has proved it can score. Although he has only thrown for a total of 132 yards in the two games, he has managed the games and with a rushing attack anchored by Adian Jimenez he will not have to do much more. Jimenez has 240 yards rushing so far in roughly five and a half quarters of play (he was hurt early in second half of first game and ejected in fourth quarter of second) and has proven he is a force. Gottula’s other weapons include wide receiver Kasper Eriksen who scored the lone touchdown against the Towers, as well as the always dangerous Nico Lester who can score on offense and defense, and Jacob Callesen and Alessandro Mella.
AaB quarterback Alexander Kronborg has completed 22 of 50 passes for 272 yards and four touchdowns in two games and looked much sharper in the win over Aarhus. With running back Breon Allen looking sharp (205 yards/3 TDs against Aarhus), the pressure on Kronborg eases and with targets like Frederik Myrup Nielsen and Rashad Greene to throw to, Kronborg and the 89ers offense could be dangerous.
